The National Weather Service reported a record low for Wichita as bitter cold temperatures continues Tuesday morning.
The low at Eisenhower National Airport was -17, breaking a record for February 16 of -6 that was set in 1903. That’s the fourth coldest temperature on record, tied with a recorded -17 from February of 2011.
Wichita’s all time coldest temperature was -22, recorded on February 12, 1899.
A Wind Chill Advisory was due to expire at noon, but a Winter Weather Advisory will be in effect Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning. A new winter storm system moving into Oklahoma will bring snow to south central and southeast Kansas. The Wichita area could see a trace to an inch of snow, while southeast Kansas could get 1 to 3 inches.
Temperatures are expected to warm up later in the week with highs in the 30s and 40s going into the weekend.
