The El Dorado Correctional Facility said one of its employees has died of complications of COVID-19.
Gabe Morales served as a Unit Team Supervisor. He joined the Kansas Department of Corrections in 2014 as a Corrections Counselor at the Winfield Correctional Facility. He accepted a promotion to Program Provider at the El Dorado prison in 2015 and then was promoted to the Unit Team Supervisor position in November.
The Kansas Department of Health and Environment lists the El Dorado Correctional Facility as a cluster site for COVID-19 with 50 new cases over the past 14 days. The state on Wednesday reported a total of 209,689 cases from the pandemic, with 2,507 deaths.
