Reno County inmate tests positive for COVID-19

The Reno County Sheriff’s Office is testing seven inmates and nine employees for COVID-19.

A person arrested over the weekend was found to be living in a home with siblings who contracted the new coronavirus.

This inmate was quickly isolated and tested on May 18th, and other inmates she had contact with were put in individual cells. Test result for the inmate in question came back positive on May 20th.

Inmates and staff are being tested and results should come back in a couple days. At the moment, potentially infected inmates are staying in separate cells. The employees involved are self-quarantining.

Reno County’s overall COVID-19 case count has been fairly low. Until this latest case, the county had reported only 41 infections, and that all patients had recovered.
