The Salvation Army in Wichita says they are about halfway of reaching their fundraising goal.
The non-profit charity says they need to raise $1.5 million to meet their operations goals for the next year to assist those in need in Wichita and Sedgwick County.
In a press release, City Commander Major James Curl says, “Meeting the need of the season…The Salvation Army makes that the emphasis of what we do. For us, the Christmas season is our primary fund raising drive.”
“Currently, our fund drive has reached 50% of our projected needs. We have just a few days left with the bell ringers need a final push from our friends.” says Curl.
The Salvation Army says their individual and corporate donations appear to be coming in at a normal pace, but donations at Red Kettle locations across Wichita appear to be down. The largest percentage of their donations still come through the Red Kettle campaign.
So far this year, the Salavation Army has been able to help every Angel Tree child, and Seniors who receive assistance through them, helping over 10,000 children and over 3,000 families in need. Red Kettle locations will remain open through Christmas Eve to accept donations.
