The Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Coffeyville Police Department, and the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office are conducting a homicide investigation after a man was shot and killed inside a Coffeyville home.
Around 10:25 a.m. on Monday, May 16th, the Coffeyville Police Department learned that a dead body could be found at 1301 W. 7th St. in Coffeyville.
Responding officers responded to the area and located the body of 47-year-old Melvin Simpson Jr. who had been shot. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy has been scheduled.
Authorities said a 61 year old man seen exiting the duplex was questioned by police but was arrested on unrelated charges. The investigation is ongoing.
