Wichita gets light snow from latest winter storm

By KFDI News and the Associated Press:

Light snow fell across the Wichita area and south central Kansas early Thursday, creating slick driving conditions and a number of accidents.

The Wichita area received .8 of an inch of snow as of late morning, and the eastern two thirds of the state was expecting a trace to an inch.   The snow was expected to end early in the afternoon.

Major roadways are clear, mostly wet with some patches of snow and ice.   Side streets are still snow-covered and drivers are urged to slow down through the rest of the day.

Freezing rain and drizzle is disrupting travel from Central Texas to the Great Lakes, with ice-glazed roads leading to hundreds of traffic accidents, including one in Kentucky that killed a toddler.

Hundreds of flights were canceled at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport as as parts of Texas, Oklahoma, Missouri and Arkansas made preparations for the storm to move in.  Some flights to and from Dallas were canceled Wednesday and Thursday at Wichita’s Eisenhower National Airport.
