The Women’s March -Air Capital and League of Women Voters-Wichita Metro are hosting a Women’s March on October 2.
The march is named “Mobilize and Defend”, focusing abortion laws across the country, and in Kansas. There is a proposed amendment to the Kansas Constitution that would state there is no constitutional right to abortions, or requirement for government funding for abortions. This is a response to an earlier Kansas Supreme Court ruling that decided the state’s Bill of Rights does protect abortions. This proposed amendment will be on the ballot in 2022.
If you would like to take part in the march, people will be meeting up at Old Town Square, and march to City Hall for a rally. Marchers are set to leave Old Town Square at 10:30 a.m. Organizers plan to hold the event even rain or shine.
Similar marches are planned across the country, in an effort to send a message to the Supreme Court, which will be reconvening soon.
