Lawyers for two brothers who were convicted of multiple murders in Wichita in 2000 will return to court next week to get their death penalties overturned.
The Kansas Supreme Court overturned the death penalty sentences for Jonathan and Reginald Carr in 2014, but in 2016 the U.S. Supreme Court reversed that decision and reinstated the death penalty.
The Kansas Supreme Court must now address 20 penalty-phase issues from the Carr brothers’ capital murder trial that the court did not previously need to rule on.
