In response to the recent rolling blackouts by Evergy and other utility companies, the city of Wichita will be closing several public buildings on Wednesday.
The shutdowns are being called a temporary and precautionary measure to preserve power supplies for residents and critical operations.
The facilities that will be closed include:
· CityArts
· Mid-America All-Indian Museum
· Old Cowtown Museum
· OJ Watson Park
· All Wichita Public Library locations, which will also close by 6 p.m. this evening
· All aesthetic lights that do not impact the safety of pedestrian and motorists, including spotlights on City hall and in Old Town
The operations at these facilities are expected to resume with normal hours on Thursday, but they could be extended if energy companies ask for more reductions.
Temperatures at most other occupied city facilities have been set at 67-68 degrees.
