Library branch in southeast Wichita to close in January

The Linwood Park Branch Library will be closing as staff gets ready to move its materials to a new location.

The branch at 1901 South Kansas will close at the end of the day Friday, January 15th.   Library spokesman Sean Jones said the exterior book drop will remain open through January 30th.

The branch is moving to a building at 4195 East Harry, a location that is known to many residents as the Wichita Mall.   The former Karl’s Tire shop will be converted into a library with 6,094 square feet of space.  It will have 16 public computing spaces, expanded sections for children and teenagers, flexible seating and a meeting room with after-hours capability.    A date has not been announced for the opening of the new branch.

The Linwood Park Branch Library opened in 1981 and it was one of several branches that were co-located with other city services.  The Linwood branch is the last of these facilities still in operation.   The relocation of the branch will restore library services in City Council District 3.
