Sedgwick County will continue testing for COVID-19 at its drive-through location and with the mobile site over the next few days, and health officials will be making a transition from the nasal swab to a saliva-based test.
County manager Tom Stolz said the county has contracted with an out-of-town lab for materials for saliva testing, and there will be a slow transition to the new testing procedure. The goal is to do 2,400 tests per day.
The county will have its Mobile Outreach Response team in Wichita on Tuesday from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. It will be located at the Bethany United Methodist Church at 1601 South Main. On Wednesday, the team will be in Park City in the parking lot of the former Atwoods store at 6235 North Broadway, from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.
Stolz said the county is still testing only people with symptoms and people in high-risk professions such as teachers, first responders and nursing home workers. Appointments can be made by calling 211.
Stolz said the county is caught up on testing, and with a new results portal, people can access results as soon as three days after testing.
