Wichita State looking at plans for pedestrian bridge

Wichita State University is proposing the creation of a privately-funded elevated pedestrian bridge that would connect the main campus and the Innovation Campus.

The bridge would span more than 300 feet across the pond west of the Wayne and Kay Woolsey Hall, which will be the future home of the W. Frank Barton School of Business.  It will have a three-pronged shape that would include a community gathering space at the midpoint.  The space could have a number of different uses, including outdoor classes, musical performances and other gathering opportunities.   There would be a series of benches along the bridge.

The bridge would cost around $2.65 million and it would be funded with private gifts.  WSU is conducting fund-raising efforts for the bridge and for Woolsey Hall.

The bridge proposal will go to the Kansas Board of Regents for consideration.  A groundbreaking for Woolsey Hall is planned in October.
